Police Report (if any)

Minutes:

Mayor Cllr Williams provided a brief update on the Police Town Report. She mentioned that both she and Deputy Mayor Cllr Myers are urging townspeople to report any criminal activities. This, they believe, will lead to an increased police presence in the town centre.

Cllr Cox informed the Cllrs that he emailed them the report and will also be delivering paper copies to the library and relevant resource centres.

Councillor Atkins provided a brief update, mentioning that Teignbridge District Council is meeting with community members to discuss the council's functions and address local concerns, including issues related to dog fouling.

Councillor Atkins also wanted to inform the council members about the recent updates at the Newton Abbot Recycling Centre. To ensure that only residents of Teignbridge are using the facility, they require proof of residency and will now accept a bus pass as a valid form of identification.

TDC Councillor Peter Williams emphasized that the report he has shared with the councillors is confidential and intended solely for their review. He advised them to consult with the Town Clerk or Mayor before contacting any members of the Executive Committee mentioned in the document.

Mayor Cllr Williams attended the TeignAid Annual General Meeting and expressed her delight at the event, noting how wonderful it was to see everyone involved and to witness the strong local support.

The Mayor extended her heartfelt thanks to Cllr Rudge for her dedicated efforts in organizing the D-Day celebrations and shared that she received a considerable amount of positive feedback from residents, who appreciated the local and intimate atmosphere of the gathering.

Finally, Mayor Cllr Williams announced to all the council members that she attended a breakfast at the Alice Cross Centre on Saturday, and it was delicious. She enthusiastically recommends it to anyone looking for a great place to enjoy a meal out.

Use of Mobile Phones

In accordance with Minute 30, mobile phones be limited to personal use only (in case of emergencies) and in which case the Councillor is to leave the room to respond. Councillors must switch their mobile phones to silent during the meeting to avoid disruption.

Minutes:

Councillor Cox suggested that the Town Council should stop appointing representatives to the Julia Cousins Trust, the Mary Risdon Charity, and the Soup Kitchen committees. He emphasized that charities and councils should remain distinct and separate entities.

Minutes:

Mayor Councillor Williams informed the councillors that the auditors had completed their review and found everything satisfactory. Councillor Walsh asked about the few recommendations the auditors had made, to which the Town Clerk responded that the council is switching banks from Barclays to Unity Trust. This change would address the additional measures the auditors suggested, including implementing double authorization for transactions.

The Town Clerk also mentioned that six councillors, none of whom are on the finance committee, should be responsible for checking the bank reconciliation, and this practice will be adopted going forward. Additionally, people can request a paper list of all council payments, which are also available electronically for anyone to view.
